Easter Preparations

We started the month with Easter preparations. Two of our volunteers; Maria and Mike, joined us from the Combwich Gardening Club and helped us put together colourful Easter Baskets made with an array of potted flowers, they looked great dotted around the home with other Easter decorations.

We had a virtual Easter Egg hunt designed from a map of Wells, there were lots of little Easter prizes hidden so most people won something, and it was a fun and quite different activity.

As the weather has really started to brighten up, we have enjoyed lots more time outside. One resident visited the Steart Marshes and hired the Tramper to go around the various hides looking out for birds and flowers, there were quite a variety at the Quantocks Hide, he really enjoyed the couple of hours spent there.

Some residents enjoyed a trip out finishing up on The Quantocks with everyone having an ice cream.

Residents have spent time in the greenhouse planting up the tomatoes and cucumbers, and we had a session at the top of the garden, planting out runner beans and sweet peas. Kevin our gardener had kindly worked the soil to give them a good chance of producing a good crop. Some residents had transplanted a selection of the plants to bigger pots as they were looking a little cramped in the ones we put seeds into. The flowers from our Easter Baskets we have also transplanted into various pots in the garden, so that should make a good show throughout the summer.

Jan; our staff vicar gave us a lovely church service just after Easter, Chris came in and played the organ, everyone loved his variety of tunes. Another Chris came in and played his guitar with many familiar tunes for us to sing along to, the weather was so nice we were able to hold it in the garden, where we could stay for afternoon tea afterwards. Andy also came in and played the guitar with Micky, they had a brilliant variety of tunes and everyone really enjoyed the morning.

One resident went to the AGM of the gardening club in Combwich with our social activities co-ordinator, she has got to know quite a few members now. We paid our subscription for another year and this enables anybody from the home to come to the meetings every month and take part in the flower show and events.
