Emmi is a Finnish Lapphund a breed that is traditionally used for herding reindeer. Not Emmi though, she is a pet firstly, a successful show dog qualifying for Crufts again this year and a pat dog.
Emmi's owner Jane brought her to visit the residents who were delighted by her placid nature, enjoyed stroking her luxuriously thick coat which fascinated them on realising just how dense it was. Jane talked about how the coat has a double layer which insulates the dogs in their native Finland when they are working as the weather becomes extremely cold. In the summer Jane exercises her in the evening when the weather is cooler to avoid her overheating. Emmi and Jane are going to be visiting on a regular basis.
