We had a lovely crop of tomatoes and cucumbers this month with residents requesting cucumber or tomato sandwiches. Our beetroot didn't do as well as some years but we still enjoyed it.
In art and crafts we took Prince; our house cat as inspiration and painted pictures with him in it, we did the backgrounds and put a silhouette of him in the foreground, it looked very effective.
We had Michael from Strawcraft come in to talk about corn dollies and give us a demonstration. We had time to try the craft ourselves, a simple plait but still takes quite a lot of patience. There were some very effective results.
We had some great musical sessions, Chris joined us again with his guitar one afternoon. Our resident organist played some lovely hymns for the church service and then after the service by popular demand, played various medleys from The Sound of Music and The Beetles and some individual requests from residents.
We also enjoyed a Record afternoon in the garden with well-known tunes from the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s.
During August/September we had some new volunteers who came in to chat to residents, including a staff members 19-year-old niece who came in every week over the summer. She was staying from Norway and was here to improve her English, it made an interesting change for the residents.
