VE Celebrations

Our main focus for this May was the VE celebrations. The bunting went up in the lounge which looked great. We had some classic VE Day music in the afternoon, with a buffet to finish.

At Stockland club there was a plant sale, with tea and cakes, or a drink from the bar, and a group of residents came over to the club to enjoy and participate in the activities. Villagers chatted to residents about the proposed grant for the church renovation and alterations, the intention to make it a more usable space for alternative activities to take place. The residents provided suggestions of functions they might like to see. It's lovely for residents to feel a part of the village life community.

Several residents joined our activities co-ordinator one Saturday evening at Combwich village hall where we enjoyed a VE evening, with singing and entertaining, drinks and a light supper of spam or ham, paste or cheese sandwiches and sausage rolls. A beautiful red, white and blue celebration cake had been created. The residents had a front row table and really enjoyed joining in with all the singing and festivities.

Jan also took a wonderful VE Day service. Chris joined us and played the organ with some favourite tunes from that decade, and we enjoyed a good sing along.

We have managed quite a few activities outside, reminiscing and other games. One resident got to drive the trumper at Steart Marshes again, enjoying the independence of the vehicle and saw a few birds that he had not seen before.

Andy Douglas came and played some lovely tunes accompanied by a couple of friends with a guitar and accordion which everyone very much enjoyed. A new singer called Simon Smale came and played country music accompanied by the playing of guitar, Simon was certainly well dressed for the part and played a good selection of songs. He was very chatty, and we all enjoyed his afternoon performance.

In art and craft, we started a project called 'a decorated tile' which is going to be one of the entries in the September Flower show at Combwich. Everyone enjoyed the initial drawing and are looking forward to embellishing it further.
