We received the preliminary report from our recent CQC inspection and are pleased to retain our 'Good' rating. We had two inspectors on the first day and then just one the following week. We were pleased with the lovely comments and thank them for their time and constructive feedback.
We had a residents meeting which was well attended, and it was good to hear feedback and suggestions which are always welcome. Residents said that Louise, our social activities coordinator, does an excellent job organising the activities. Louise does work so creatively, thinking up innovative ideas and opportunities for everyone to enjoy and she is certainly a huge asset to The Vicarage.
We welcomed William, a student from Haygrove School who joined us for a week's work experience. It was a pleasure to have him with us and the residents really enjoyed his company.
Due to the lovely weather, we have managed to spend a good amount of time outside. The vegetables have really come on, we have enjoyed runner beans, potatoes, beetroot, turnip and cucumbers, everyone has commented on how tasty they were. Some of the tomatoes seem to have been affected by blossom end rot, but we are hoping the rest will be fine, as it is not a spreadable disease.
We enjoyed some games and music in the garden, under the shade of the trees.
In art and craft, we continued with our decorated tile. Some residents have finished theirs, but others still have a bit to do, but it will be one project completed for the Combwich Flower Show, allowing us to start the next one.
We were lucky to find a morning for Harriott, Rowan and Oskar, neighbours of The Vicarage, to bring in their two friendly sheep, Myrtle and Nellie, to visit. The weather wasn't warm enough for residents to go outside, so the sheep came in! No toes were stepped on, and everyone had great fun feeding them.
David Milton came in to sing sea shanties and folk tunes and it was lovely to enjoy his entertainment in the garden. Chris joined us to play the guitar and have a sing along, and another Chris played a lovely variety of songs on the organ. We also enjoyed one morning with one of our residents playing the organ for a sing-along. William, our Haygrove student, also played some beautiful classical music.
We had a lovely car trip through the Quantocks, eventually stopping at Crowcombe Gate for an ice cream. We thoroughly enjoyed it and will be having a few more trips through July and August.
We had a variety of other games throughout the month and one of our volunteers, Jo, came in to do her reminiscence session and some one-on-one sessions, all of which were enjoyed.
