Christmas Events

We had quite a few art and craft sessions, making some decorations first to go on one of the trees at Stogursey Tree Festival in the church. We decided to utilise some bits we had lying around, using knitted squares and adding cupcake flowers to them. One of our volunteers kindly came in and helped; they looked lovely and we made a large flower to perch on top. We also made some large paper snowflakes to go on the tree in Cannington Church.

There was also a lovely wreath making session taken by Mike and Maria from the garden club. We made quite a mess, but it was worth it to see the wreaths and the garland to go over the mirror in the dining room. Also, some lovely flat baskets were made to go on resident's doors. Table decorations were made a few days before Christmas, cutting natural foliage and putting in oasis, with added baubles and tinsel, and a candle just for show, but it made the tables look complete.

Music as usual played a very important part, we had Ewan playing some classical tunes, with quite a few Christmas tunes too. Andy came in with a few helpers, playing the guitar, with Micky singing, playing the guitar and accordion. Chris joined us on another occasion and played the organ with some great sing-along tunes. On another afternoon Steve sang more traditional Christmas tunes from an age gone by, so there was something for everyone. We had a lovely Carol Service one afternoon taken by our staff vicar Jan, with several relatives attending followed by tea and mince pies, it was a lovely atmosphere.

For the first time a panto company of two called Ghostenlightenment, entertained us. It was a very different performance of The Wizard of Oz with a lot of characters for this production. One player played Dorothy and all the other characters were played by the other female performer, with lots of songs to join in with and costume changes, it was very entertaining!

We had trips to see Nativity plays at both Nether Stowey and Combwich, everyone really enjoyed them, one resident had never been to a nativity show before and thoroughly enjoyed it. The children were great and really made us smile, but each show was so different, with one of them involving the whole school.

We visited Cannington church to see the tree decorations, and at Stogursey we did an hour stewarding as well as looking at their church and tree decorations. Christmas Eve came and we had a Christmas party, with music quizzes, a Christmas quiz and pass the parcel, with a buffet at the end, all the carers joined in to help and make it more festive.

After Christmas was a slightly slower pace, with normal games and activities.
