In one of our activity sessions the residents together wrote a poem for autumn. During another session they then illustrated it for display, the results were striking.
Autumn
As the days get shorter, crisper but bright
Swallows gather and must soon take flight
While geese come, in a noisy throng
Singing their raucous but joyful song
Yellow, orange, red and gold
All the leaves are getting old
Blowing, whirling in the breeze
We all kick them up to our knees
To lanes and fields we make our way
For berries that we pick all day
Field mice to seek the barns
To save themselves from any harm
The temperatures are getting cooler
The sun's rays are getting shorter
Morning dews expose the spider's webs
And hedgehogs hibernate in a bed
Golden cornfields are harvested in
And stored away in a vast bin
Folk take produce to the show
Very proud of what they grow
Nature is preparing to sleep
Waiting for new life to peep
For it is only just under the ground
Waiting for spring to come around
