A New Entertainer

A new entertainer to us; Dave Milton came in his wonderful period costume and an assortment of musical instruments; the accordion, guitar, ukulele and mouth organ. We all really enjoyed his folk songs and sea shanties and look forward to him returning soon.

Another popular visitor; Chris played the organ and we enjoyed some great favourite tunes. Our resident organist played some sing a long favourites one morning too.

We had a lovely Remembrance Day Service taken by our Vicar Jan and our resident organist played the music for the hymns.

In art and crafts residents made some Scottish flags, thistles and tartan paper for bunting to decorate for St Andrew's Day. In another session we also made some great Christmas cards for residents families and our entertainers.

On St Andrew's Day Hazel; a very talented musician, joined us again to play her harp which was beautiful. Hazel is a real firm favourite with everyone, her playing is just magical.

A game we hadn't played for a while was the tray game, where we take an item away and have to remember what we have taken or place them in a different formation. All the items belonged to the residents taking part to give everyone a chance to at least remember their own item and it is fun to talk about why they picked their own chosen objects too.

We have started to read a few new books recently. 'My Uncle Silas' was recommended by one of our residents who is also happy to read it and in the appropriate accents. A local book called 'The Last Broomsquire' is about several true stories in the area which is creating some new interest. We are also reading Tarka the Otter.

Volunteer; Suzanne came in to help with playing a board games afternoon. While some residents play scrabble, others play a few different board games the favourite often being dominos. It's great having Suzanne volunteering and we really appreciate the support.

The highlight of the month was celebrating a very special 100th birthday! Haydn's family joined him for an afternoon tea and the residents thoroughly enjoyed the celebrations, what an amazing milestone and wonderful to receive a card from King Charles.
